IS LINKING YOUR WALLET TO A WEBSITE SAFE?

What signing a message really does, what it can't do, and how to spot a wallet drainer before you click.

Signing a message is not sending a transaction

To prove a wallet is yours, a site asks you to sign a short text message. Signing it costs nothing, moves nothing and gives no access to your funds. It only proves you hold the key.

A transaction is different: it can move tokens or give a contract permission to spend them. Your wallet shows which one you are about to approve. Read it.

Red flags

  • A "verification" that asks you to approve a transaction or pay a fee.
  • A message full of unreadable characters instead of plain text.
  • "Approve", "setApprovalForAll" or "increase allowance" on a site that only needed to know your address.
  • A link sent in DMs, or a domain one letter off the real one.
Never type your seed phrase on any website. No real service will ever ask for it.

How FL3X does it

FL3X only ever asks you to sign a readable message naming FL3X and your wallet, which says signing is free. There is no transaction, no approval and no fee. The details are in Link a wallet.
